WHAT IS DRAGONBOAT?

Originating from China over 2,000 years ago, dragon boat is a competitive racing sport involving 20 paddlers in a long canoe, with one caller and one steersperson, working collaboratively to move the boat faster than the surrounding competiton. Dragon boat not only requires strength and endurance, but synchronization and team work. In modern times, it has become the fastest growing international water sport with competitions known as "dragon boat festivals" being held all around the world.

WHO ARE WE?

We are the UCI Elements, a dynamic and competitive collegiate dragon boat team hailing from the University of California, Irvine. Our journey began back in 2003 when we were known as the K.I.D.s, or the Krazy Irvine Dragons. The following year, we transformed into the Paddle Rangers, and by 2005, we officially embraced our current identity as the UCI Elements.

Our name carries profound meaning. We embody the power of three elements: thunder, symbolizing our unrelenting drive to conquer every challenge; wind, representing the liberating sensation we experience on the open water; and fire, igniting the intense passion that fuels our every stroke.

With each season, each race, and every grueling training session, we relentlessly pursue new heights of achievement, both on the water and in our personal lives. But we are more than just a sports team; we are a close-knit family. Camaraderie, passion, and dedication are not just words to us; they are the core of our existence.

As a team, we inspire one another to push the boundaries not only in the gym and on the water but also in our academic pursuits. We don't just compete; we bond as teammates and forge unbreakable friendships, making our journey through the dragon boat world an unforgettable adventure.
